Relief Efforts

On the Seminar’s final day, Seminar Participants- as well as network leaders attending the National Leadership Meeting the following day – pitched in for some hands-on work in community service projects to aid Puerto Rico’s ongoing recovery from the devastation of Hurricane María.

NMSDC members and staff manned a food bank in San Juan and traveled to the eastern coastal town of Yabucoa – which endured the full force of the hurricane’s landfall – to assist in its recovery.

Support is ongoing: you can be a part of this effort by contributing to NMSDC’s Puerto Rico Relief Fund, which is raising $50,000 to provide school supplies and backpacks for the children of Puerto Rico.

The effort in Yabucoa yielded a powerful example of the spirit of NMSDC. Volunteers and staff distributed to residents of Yabucoa, PR, hand-cranked radios provided by the Red Cross and Walmart gift cards. In addition, the shopped for and prepared bags of groceries, which they delivered to the most needy families in Yabucoa, along with the radios and Walmart gift cards. The imagination, the efforts and the experience of this word had a profound effect on everyone who participated – an unanticipated but inspiring affirmation of NMSDC’s mission and the vigorous commitment of its network.
